Beryl (naturally etched) - $40 Maxixe Claim, PiauĂ valley, Taquaral, Itinga, Minas Gerais, Brazil Miniature - 5.6 x 4.2 x 4.1 cm (2.2 x 1.7 x 1.6 inches) 116 grams (0.26 pounds) Specimen status: Reserved Send an email with specimen number to order This is naturally etched beryl, with
four obvious partial to complete crystal faces. Two of
these faces are lightly but quite nicely frosted
(interesting texture), while the base and termination
are glassier (but still have some etched areas). The
heaviest etching is on the rear, where the natural
corrosion caused the crystal to become detached from
matrix (left photo, middle row). Despite the etching,
the characteristic hexagonal crystal shape is obvious.
The specimen is highly translucent to transparent (best
seen in a backlit photo; middle of top row). Sits quite
nicely as shown without needing additional support. No
damage.
