A tuft a beautiful blue pentagonite sits atop a carpet of tiny, sparkling heulandites. This in turn rests on a typical Deccan plateau basalt matrix. The pentagonite cluster is a little contacted, which is why the specimens isn't $75. The basalt matrix has been sawn, because this volcanic rock is very tough and diamond sawing is the only way to extract specimens without damage. However the sawn base makes for excellent display. Three years ago Indian mineral wholesalers indicate that the cavansite-producing quarries are either worked out, flooded, or otherwise abandoned, and the cavansite/pentagonite supply is now only a trickle of what it was on the past, with no immediate hopes for more production.
