23991: Fluorite and Calcite
Clay Center, Ottawa County, Ohio
Miniature - 5.0 x 4.0 x 3.4 cm (2.0 x 2.0 x 1.3 inches)
Weight - 90 grams (0.20 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

A mostly opaque cluster of deep root beer brown fluorite crystals, accented with small, colorless and gemmy, scalenohedral calcite crystals. Numerous fluorite crystal faces are present, although much of the surface contour was formed by contacting other now-absent crystals. Under both longwave and shortwave UV the specimen exhibits an interestingly-zoned, fairly brightly off-white fluorescence on the contacted faces and edges of the distinct fluorite cubes, but not on the center of these cube faces. (The fluorescence is brighter than the photos suggest.) Minor celestine also noted. Minor chipping and cleaves noted but insignificant in light of the color and fluorescence. Probably from the Stoneco White Rock Quarry.
