10456: Quartz and Tourmaline - $14 Himalaya Mine, Mesa Grande District, San Diego County, California Small cabinet - 6.4 x 5.2 x 3.5 cm 124 grams Specimen status: Available Send an email with specimen number to order This specimen is dominated by a 6.0
cm, translucent to transparent, lightly smoky quartz
crystal. This quartz is complete except for a small chip
on the back. A terminated tourmaline crystal, measuring
2.4 cm in length and grown on the front of the quartz, is
mostly green with a little pink at the tip. This
tourmaline features a slight kink, caused by breakage
(perhaps tectonic) and heal. Massive to crystalline (platy
albite) feldspar is also seen. Ignoring the usual
contacts, the aforementioned quartz chip is the limit of
the specimen's damage.
