13965: Pyrrhotite (partially replaced),
Quartz, Calcite, and Galena - $8 Santa Eulalia Mining District, Aquiles Serdán Municipality, Chihuahua, Mexico Small cabinet - 6.0 x 4.9 x 3.5 cm 130 grams Specimen status: Available Send an email with specimen number to order Abundant and bronzy, tabular
pyrrhotite crystals to 6 mm show shrinkage cracks (but
appear stable) due (possibly) to replacement by pyrite or
goethite. Also present are numerous opaque, small quartz
needles, several clusters of brown calcite microcrystals,
and galena cleavages (embedded in the matrix). Quite
interesting for the evidence of partial to complete
replacement of the pyrrhotite.
