39604: Galena, Marcasite and Calcite - $24 St Joseph Lead Mine, Viburnum, Iron County, Missouri Small cabinet - 8.0 x 5.5 x 5.3 cm 262 grams Specimen status: Available Send an email with specimen number to order Abundant, lustrous to sublustrous
galena octahedra cover two-thirds of the matrix pillar.
About 40% of the galena is covered with dull,
microcrystalline marcasite. (The marcasite lacks odor, and
is judged to be perfectly stable.) Two opaque and somewhat
incomplete scalenohedral calcite crystals are also
present, but these are more important as a base for the
specimen than of any main mineralogical interest. Sits
perfectly for vertical display as shown. Except for the
basal calcite, condition is excellent. Displays nicely.
