01429: Fluorite and Gypsum
Royal Flush Mine, Bingham, Hansonburg District, Socorro County, New Mexico
Cabinet - 13.8 x 9.2 x 5.3 cm (5.4 x 3.6 x 2.1 inches)
Weight - 446 grams (0.98 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

This specimen features a good coverage of transparent to translucent fluorite cubes to about 6 mm scattered about the surface and crevasses of whitish matrix. These fluorites are purple under my LED lighting (but recall that fluorite color is dependent on light source, so it may appear more blue in your cabinet), and most have a darker rind zone and lighter core zone. Most of the specimen has a light dusting of sugary, white gypsum. Distinct gypsum crystals are also present, most notable the 2 cm-wide ramshorn gypsum cluster near the center of one face. Except for a slight rub to the ramshorn cluster, no damage. Displays well from several angles without needing a stand. (If you are not a fan of gypsum, the coating could probably be removed without damaging the fluorites, but this requires specialized chemical treatment.)
