Gypsum from Pakistan?!? A number of dealers based in Pakistan have been offering recent finds of 'beryllonite' (this is one of those offerings) that are, in fact, gypsum. The hardness (easily scratched by a fingernail) and satiny luster clearly confirms this as gypsum. The specimen is notable not because of its beauty (this is in fact a somewhat aesthetically challenged specimen) or for its rarity (worldwide gypsum is in fact quite common) but instead for the locality (gypsum is quite uncommon from Skardu). The gypsum crystallized in a crack within the rocks; hence its flattish appearance. Despite gypsum's softness there is no damage to this specimen.
