00751: Gypsum, Quartz, and Calcite
Lower New Street Quarry, Paterson, Passaic County, New Jersey
Cabinet - 13.3 x 9.5 x 5.3 cm (5.3 x 3.7 x 2.1 inches)
470 grams (1.04 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

A dark basalt matrix hosts a pad of mostly massive quartz, upon which sits numerous gypsum crystals. The gypsum ranges from translucent to transparent, with the large crystal being doubly terminated and 4.1 cm wide (last photo). A very good association/locality specimen. Surprisingly little damage to the gypsum, especially considering its softness.
