28019: Cuprite and Miersite
Poteryaevskoe Mine, Rubtsovskoe Cu-Zn-Pb deposit, Rudnyi Altai, Altaiskii Krai, Russia
Miniature - 4.7 x 3.3 x 2.9 cm (1.9 x 1.3 x 1.1 inches)
91 grams (0.20 pounds)
Specimen status: Sold

From the famous find of a few years ago we have a cluster of lustrous and sharp cuprite crystals, the largest of which is 1.3 cm in size. Scattered amongst the cuprites are patches of waxy grayish miersite, an rare silver copper halide with somewhat variable composition, (Ag,Cu)I. Judging from the color this miersite has more silver than copper. The specimen is complete on all but the back and base faces, so no significant damage is seen. Displays nicely without a stand because the base is naturally flat. Better, I think, than the photos suggest.
