Veins of fibrous to massive thaumasite in matrix. The  Crestmore Quarries have rich mineralogy, including 160 mineral species; Crestmore is the type locality for eight of these. Thaumasite is a somewhat uncommon hydrated calcium sulfate carbonate derivative of silicic acid, Ca3(SO4)[(Si(OH)6](CO3) ยท 12 H2O. Quarry operation ceased in 1986, and recent collecting opportunities have been rare. I am told that the quarries are soon to be backfilled and apartments built. This means specimens from this classical locality will become increasingly more difficult to obtain.
